Mariano CARRERA (b. 1934) "Homage to Mondrian". Oil on canva - Lot 604
Mariano CARRERA (b. 1934) "Homage to Mondrian". Oil on canvas signed lower right, countersigned on reverse, located and dated Paris 73 (Dim.: 60 x 60 cm) (some missing paint layer at edges).
Argentine artist and professor of drawing and engraving at the National School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, he settled permanently in Paris in the 1960s, where he frequented artists of the kinetic movement as well as his compatriots: Julio Le Parc, Horacio Garcia-Rossi and Hugo Demarco. At the same time, he built his first "optical structures" in wood and Plexiglas.
He also worked as a designer, notably for Ricciardi in Buenos Aires and Chaumet in Paris.
This work is in the vein of Victor Vasarely, and its horizontal and vertical lines are a tribute to the neoplasticism of Piet Mondrian.
