Véronique VERMEIL (1938-2017). Stained oak pantry opening to - Lot 349
Véronique VERMEIL (1938-2017). Stained oak pantry opening to an arched bay, with ironwork (Dim.: 72 x 25 x 75 cm). Cf. Sale of the artist's studio, Pescheteau-Badin, March 2, 2018, lot n°6 sold for 1000 euros excluding fees. "The work of Véronique VERMEIL (1938-2017) traces the history of an artist whose influences and inspiration led her to travel from Tuscany to Provence and from Africa to Paris, the city where her studios hosting her pictorial and sculptural work were located. A complete artist, she has mastered a rich palette of techniques over the course of her career and artistic evolution, as the diversity of her media attests: lithographs, pastel on velvet, acrylic on paper, oil on canvas and wood sculpture. His work has been widely recognized by museums and gallery owners in France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium and New Caledonia, who have devoted numerous solo exhibitions to his painting and sculpture throughout his rich career. Acknowledged for her personal work, Véronique Vermeil is far from alone. Throughout her life, she has surrounded herself with a nebulous group of artists, many of whose works can be found in her studio (and therefore in this sale). They have been sources of inspiration and work for her, to such an extent that in the 70s, alongside lifelong friend Alain Bonnefoit, she founded the Okto group, bringing together artists whose reputations are well established, such as Christian Barbançon, Louis Félicien Carnir, Noëlle Favre and Thibault de Reimpré. She then joined the Oblique group with sculptors Gérard Ramon and Jean Hanquet, and the 109 group with Piga, among others."
