Intendant général Chayrou's coat in horizon-blue woollen clo - Lot 486
Intendant général Chayrou's coat in horizon-blue woollen cloth fastened by a row of six buttons with a senior officer's imprint. It features two slanted front pockets, a knight's collar and three stars sewn onto the bottom of each sleeve, marking the rank of intendant general. On the chest, we can see the expectation of medals. Inside, a nominette dated 1923. Made by Audouard, Paris. Good overall condition.
Born in 1866, Pierre-Roger Chayrou entered the Ecole Polytechnique in 1885, and began his military career in the artillery with the 32nd RA, then the 6th, 13th and 17th foot artillery regiments. Around 1899, he became assistant to the military intendance, an arm that had been radically reorganized in 1882. From 1900 to 1902, he was part of the expeditionary corps in China, from which he wrote a book entitled "L'administration en Chine des corps de troupes et des isolés 1900-1901. His career really took off as a subsistence specialist, and he was awarded the Légion d'honneur in 1904, rising through the ranks. During the war, he was director of the 32nd Army Corps Commissariat, becoming Intendant (two-star general) in 1917, then in 1920 deputy director of the Commissariat of the Government of Paris. He died in 1955.
