ANAMORPHOSES. Set of six anamorphoses, watercolor and ink on - Lot 21
ANAMORPHOSES. Set of six anamorphoses, watercolor and ink on paper - three erotic anamorphoses. Some signed illegibly. Legended on the reverse "figure kissing", "L'on donne le fouëtte", "la laitière qui répandre son lait sur la tette d'un homme qui luy met la main sous les juppes". Various formats. 18th century (Dim.: 32.5 x 40 cm) - three anamorphoses depicting Bacchus titled on the reverse "Bachus sur son tonneau", "Bachus le verre à la main", the third untitled depicting a man with a glass in his hand. (missing mirror, tears and wetness). The principle of anamorphosis, invented by Piero Della Francesca, consists in creating a work distorted by a cylindrical glass, stretching the lines vertically and horizontally, until they become illegible to the viewer. Placed behind a cylindrical mirror, whose location is indicated on the board, it reveals itself to the observer. Without it, the viewer sees only inconsistent elements. Today, anamorphosis is used by contemporary artists such as JR and Felice Varini.
