Pair of Ottoman "süleymaniye" covered dishes - Lot 202
Pair of Ottoman "süleymaniye" covered dishes Pair of covered vegetable or compote dishes (kapakli sahan) in enameled copper (süleymaniye ichi). The shallow circular dish is surmounted by a domed lid with a silver floral bud grip. Polychrome-painted and gilded decoration on a cobalt-blue background, decorated with plant and floral garlands embellished with roses on a gilded pebbled background (wear, missing enamel and chips). Ottoman Turkey, probably Istanbul, circa 1800 Diameters: 20 and 21 cm; Height: 17 cm A very similar covered dish with blue decoration recently sold at Roseberys in London ("An Ottoman Suleymaniye-ware enamelled dish and cover (sahan)", Antiquities, Islamic and Indian Arts, May 2, 2025, lot 179). A similar one was offered at Christie's in Paris on December 18, 2007, lot 18.
