Augustin PAJOU (1730-1809), after. "Portrait of the Countess du BARRY, née Marie-Jeanne Bécu (1743-1793)" in reconstituted stone. (Height: 72 cm) (chips on the pedestal) Remake of the bust commissioned by Mme du Barry and exhibited at the Salon of 1773. This bust, which made Pajou's reputation as a female portraitist, was located in the château of Louis XV's favorite at Louveciennes, where it remained until its seizure by the French Revolution in 1793. After a spell at Versailles, it moved to the Louvre around 1855, where it remains today.
