Senior light cavalry officer's saber, model 1896. Mounted in finely chased gilt bronze and horn. Oval-shaped cap decorated with a laurel wreath, four-point wrap-around guard on a jointed arch, plate tail with Gorgon head. Horn spindle, watermark missing. Straight blade with T-shaped throat and back. Single-strap iron scabbard, complete with field leather sheath. Total length 107 cm. France, Third Republic period.
