Small color painting on silk with gold background, depicting a courtesan in a blue kimono adorned with cherry blossoms, with a handwritten note on the reverse stating that the painting was made by Prince Takematsu Yosawa, a Japanese diplomat, for Marthe Bourdillon in 1936, when he returned to Geneva to see her. He had proposed to her in 1898, when he was a student of international law in Geneva.
