Accidents
A self-taught sculptor, Hélène Flandin (1885-1968), née Depret-Bixio, produced numerous portraits of personalities from the Parisian haute bourgeoisie. Her models were close to her and to her husband Charles Etienne Hippolyte Flandin (1882-1955), a doctor and politician. Her portraits are touchingly realistic, reflecting her affection for her models.
Between 1935 and 1950, she exhibited at the Salon de la Société des Artistes Indépendants. She presented numerous busts in plaster and sometimes bronze or terracotta. In June 1947, she shared an exhibition at Galerie Claude with the draughtswoman Maguillery. The Musée de Grenoble holds a portrait of Balzacien Marcel Bouteron (plaster, H. 48 cm, inv. MG 3054), member of the Institut de France.
