China, late 19th century, Made by Wang Yu Xuan. Porcelain and polychrome enamel ovoid ginger pot decorated with the legend of Wang Xizhi (303-361), a great Chinese calligrapher who loved geese. On the reverse, calligraphy evokes the character of Wang Xizhi, known as a simple, honest man. He doesn't dream of wealth, but of being happy in an ordinary life. Lid missing.
