Small reliquary painting with paperolles decorated with a design on painted fabric showing the relics of St Vitalis and St Cebilae in a carved gilded wood frame. 18th century (dim 13.5x17 cm) Vital of Ravenna was a martyr in the 1st century. A Catholic saint, he is celebrated on April 28. Husband of Saint Valerie, he was the father of Saint Gervais and Saint Protais. He was buried alive for refusing to renounce his Christian faith in Ravenna during the reign of Emperor Nero.
