In a red and green morocco case from Bapst Frères, suppliers to the Duke of Orléans.
This box was given to the late Madame Pieraggi by Ferdinand-Philippe d'Orléans (1810-1842), eldest son of King Louis-Philippe, during his visit to Corsica in March 1836, and has remained in her family ever since.
Cf. Beaussant Lefèvre sale, October 1, 2020, lot 17, for a similar box offered to Louis-Charles-Philippe d'Orléans, Duc de Nemours, brother of Ferdinand-Philippe d'Orléans, and second son of King Louis-Philippe.
"Louis-François TRONQUOY (1798 circa -1871), silversmith, son of Jean-François TRONQUOY, opened his shop, La Tabatière, at 8 rue des Prouvaires in Paris in 1827, and practiced until 1871.
Under the Restoration and the July Monarchy, he specialized in the manufacture of "present" boxes, most often in gold, decorated with enamel or precious stones, given by the king or members of the royal family.
He worked in collaboration with BAPST, Joaillier du Roi et de la Couronne".
